We want the family place to feel like home so come on in, hang up your coat and take off your shoes. Our entrance leads to two stair cases taking you to the second or main floor. The main floor hosts our office, living room, stair access to the basement, play room one, and programs room. It's our hub and where we love to welcome everyone who walks through our doors.
The second floor hosts 3 classrooms, two activity rooms, and a kitchen for our Mini Go and Little Learner programs.
There are washroom facilities on all floors.
The family place is located at 24 - 4th St. NE Weyburn. We are blessed with a 10,000 square foot two story building. Countless volunteer hours and donations have helped us maximize our space; creating as many safe and enriching spaces as possible and a building we're quite proud of!
Our living room serves many purposes. As the first room you enter on the main floor, it's a welcoming, homey space where we connect with all visitors to the Family Place. Children are able to read from our bookshelf stocked with story books, colour a picture, or hug our life size teddy bear. Families are able to visit here and connect with each other.
We have an open concept office. This makes it easier for us to connect with everyone who comes through our doors. Visiting with parents gives us a chance to get to know them and to offer support for the challenges they are facing. We offer a listening ear and share encouragement. Talking with parents also helps us get feedback about our services and learn about the many needs of our community.
Play Room One
Play Room One is located on the main floor and is designed for children, aged 1-5. In our playroom you will find toddler push toys, a climbing mountain, a doll loft, a climbing apparatus, a pirate ship structure, and much more. We are especially excited about the climbing apparatus recently donated by CUPE Local 6717. This structure appeals to older children. Parents are asked to stay with their children and supervise while they are in the play rooms. We encourage parents to participate in play with their children while using this facility. Our play rooms are free and open to all during our operating hours of 8:30 to 3:30, Monday through Friday.
Play Room Two
Play Room Two is located in the basement and is designed for children, ages 1-5. Here you will find riding cars, a play house, swings, a climbing wall, slides, a kitchen, and construction toys, as well as lots of balls and basketball hoops. This room has space to run and jump and is an exciting option for kids to play and explore. Parents are asked to supervise their children while they are using our play rooms. We encourage parents to participate in play with their children while using our facility. Our play rooms are free and open to all during our operating hours of 8:30 to 3:30, Monday through Friday.
Cuddle Room/Program Room
Recently renovated with a focus on creating a comfortable, relaxing place for moms and babies, our Program Room hosts Smiles and Tears and our free weekly children's programs, and our Home Alone Course. We also offer a course entitled 1-2-3 Magic Parenting. For nursing moms, tired children, or just anyone needing some peace and quiet, the Cuddle/Program Room provides a quiet alternative to the loud, energetic play rooms. Containing a crib, a TV with Disney movies, couches with a nursing pillow, the Cuddle/Program Room is open during our operating hours for anyone's use.
We understand that kids grow quickly and keeping them clothed is challenging and expensive. The Clothes Closet offers gently used children's clothing at no cost. Donations of children's gently used clothing are always appreciated! Families are welcome to stop by and choose clothing at no charge during our operating hours, 8:30 - 3:30, Monday through Friday.
Filled with sensory equipment, the Snoezelen room provides a soothing environment that stimulates the senses using light effects, sounds, and tactile sensations. A few key pieces of equipment in the room are the bubble tube, hanging swing, and ball pit. This room is beneficial to people of all ages and abilities and is particularly beneficial for those individuals who have autism, developmental disabilities, dementia, or sensory impairments. This room is available during our operating hours and can be booked for use by calling our office at 306-842-7477.
Located in our basement, our kitchen includes two stoves, industrial fridges, sinks, and a large island. It's the perfect place to host community cooking classes, bake large batches of cookies for one of our many events, or host our free Kids Cooking Program.
Our Preschools take place on our top floor, which houses three classrooms, each filled with education and learning aids, decorated with custom, one-of-a-kind art from our Preschool children.
Gross Motor Playroom
A large open room on our top floor is used for games, gym class, dance, storytime, and many other activities. This room promotes gross motor skills such as hand eye coordination, flexibility, and muscle coordination.
Preschool Activity Room
Home to paint easels, dress up clothes, puzzles, a sand table, blocks, books, and so much more, this room inspires creativity and is a great place for children to learn to play together and share.
